Maxwell Tylden Masters (1833–1907) was an English botanist. The son of a Canterbury nurseryman, he studied medicine at King's College London and practiced briefly before devoting himself to plants. From 1865 until his death he edited the Gardeners' Chronicle, the leading horticultural journal of the day, and he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1870. Vegetable Teratology (1869), his account of malformations in plants, was the standard work on its subject, and he contributed monographs on the Passifloraceae and other families to major floras while serving on the scientific committee of the Royal Horticultural Society.
