Louise Imogen Guiney (1861–1920) was an American poet, essayist and scholar. Born in Boston, the daughter of an Irish-born Union general who died of his war wounds, she was educated by nuns and published her first poems in her early twenties. Her collections include Songs at the Start, The White Sail, A Roadside Harp and Happy Ending; her essays appeared in Patrins, A Little English Gallery and Goose-Quill Papers. To support herself she worked as a postmistress in Auburndale, where anti-Catholic feeling made her job difficult, and as a librarian, before moving in 1901 to England, where she spent her last years in Oxford on an anthology of recusant poets.
