Louis Antoine Fauvelet de Bourrienne (1769–1834) was a French diplomat and memoirist, the schoolfellow of Napoleon Bonaparte at Brienne and his private secretary from 1797 to 1802. He accompanied Napoleon through the Italian campaign, the expedition to Egypt and the coup of Brumaire, drafting his correspondence and sharing his confidence, until suspected financial dealings cost him his place. He later served as minister in Hamburg, rallied to the Bourbons in 1814 and held office under the Restoration. His ten-volume Memoirs of Napoleon Bonaparte (1829–1830), ghostwritten in part and often hostile, became one of the most read sources on the Emperor. He died insane at Caen.
