Lord Gilhooley

1 book to read online

Lord Gilhooley was the pen name of Frederick O'Hoolihan, an American writer who published two novels with the New York and London firm of F. Tennyson Neely in the 1890s: Yutzo and, in 1898, Maugis, Ye Sorcerer, a tale of medieval enchantment supposedly recovered from manuscripts of the age of Charlemagne found by a hermit in the French Ardennes, and dedicated with mock solemnity to the learned society of Nancy. The books mix fantasy with hoax in the manner of the period's humorous fiction, and the author's title was part of the joke. Nothing reliable is recorded of his life beyond the books themselves.
