Levi H. Dowling

Levi H. Dowling (1844–1911), who published under the name Levi, was an American preacher and writer. Born in Ohio, he began preaching as a youth, served as a chaplain during the Civil War, and later studied and practiced medicine. Interested in mysticism, he claimed to have spent years in meditation gaining access to the Akashic records, a cosmic memory of all events, from which he said he transcribed The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ, published in 1908. The book, which describes Jesus traveling and studying in India, Tibet, Persia and Egypt, became influential in esoteric and New Age circles.
