John C. Joy

1 book to read online

John C. Joy was an Irish Jesuit priest and writer of the early twentieth century. His study The Emperor Marcus Aurelius: A Study in Ideals was published in 1913 by the Catholic Truth Society of Ireland in Dublin and by Herder in Saint Louis. It presents the philosopher-emperor sympathetically as a model of pagan virtue, while measuring Stoic ideals against Christian ones and considering the persecution of Christians during his reign. Few other details of Joy's life appear in standard reference works.
