John Edward Bloundelle-Burton (1850–1917) was an English writer of historical romances and a journalist. Educated for the law and briefly in the army, he turned to fiction in his thirties and produced some forty novels, most of them set in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and built around a young English officer or gentleman caught up in the wars of Louis XIV, the Jacobite risings or the Spanish Main. In the Day of Adversity (1895), The Clash of Arms, Denounced and The Scourge of God (1898) are representative. His books were popular in the United States, where Appleton published them in its Town and Country Library.
