Jabez Hogg

Jabez Hogg (1817–1899) was an English surgeon, ophthalmologist and microscopist. After an early career in printing and journalism in London, he qualified in medicine and served for many years as surgeon to the Royal Westminster Ophthalmic Hospital, writing on diseases of the eye and on the use of the ophthalmoscope. A keen student of microscopy, he was a president of the Medical Microscopical Society, and his book The Microscope, first published in 1854, introduced generations of amateurs and students to the instrument through many revised editions.
