J. O. P. Bland

J. O. P. Bland (1863–1945), John Otway Percy Bland, was a British journalist and author who spent many years in China. Born in Ireland, he worked for the Chinese Imperial Maritime Customs and the Shanghai Municipal Council, and served as correspondent for The Times in Shanghai. With Edmund Backhouse he wrote China under the Empress Dowager, published in 1910, and Annals and Memoirs of the Court of Peking. His other books, such as Recent Events and Present Policies in China, were skeptical of Chinese republicanism, and he remained a forceful commentator on the Far East.
