Herbert Quick (1861–1925) was an American novelist and public official from Iowa. Partly crippled by polio as a child, he taught school, read law and was elected mayor of Sioux City on a reform ticket in 1898. His first novel, Aladdin & Co. (1904), satirized the real-estate booms he had watched, and he wrote on farm policy, edited Farm and Fireside, and served on the Federal Farm Loan Board under Woodrow Wilson. Late in life he produced the trilogy for which he is remembered, Vandemark's Folly (1922), The Hawkeye and The Invisible Woman, a history of Iowa from settlement to the twentieth century told through one family.
