Henry Scadding

Henry Scadding (1813–1901) was a Canadian Anglican clergyman, teacher and local historian. Born in England, he came as a child to York, the town that became Toronto, studied at Upper Canada College and at Cambridge, and later taught at Upper Canada College and served for many years as rector of Holy Trinity Church in Toronto. He wrote widely on the history and antiquities of the city, above all Toronto of Old, published in 1873, and co-wrote Toronto: Past and Present. He was a founder of the Canadian Institute and a respected authority on the early history of Ontario.
