H. B. Walters

Henry Beauchamp Walters (1867–1944) was an English archaeologist and museum curator. Educated at King's College, Cambridge, he joined the British Museum in 1890 and spent his whole career in its Department of Greek and Roman Antiquities, of which he was Keeper from 1925 to 1932. He catalogued the museum's vases, bronzes, terracottas, lamps and engraved gems, and his History of Ancient Pottery, a thorough rewriting of Samuel Birch's older work published in 1905, became the standard English survey of Greek, Etruscan and Roman ceramics. He also wrote The Art of the Greeks, The Art of the Romans and a handbook of classical archaeology.
