Gilbert Parker

Sir Gilbert Parker (1862–1932) was a Canadian novelist and British politician. Born in Ontario, he taught, lectured and wrote for newspapers in Australia before settling in London in 1890. Pierre and His People (1892), stories of the Canadian Northwest, made his name, and The Seats of the Mighty, a romance of the siege of Quebec, The Battle of the Strong, set in Jersey, and The Right of Way confirmed it. He sat as Conservative MP for Gravesend from 1900 to 1918, was knighted in 1902 and made a baronet in 1915, and during the First World War directed British propaganda aimed at the United States.
