George Müller (1805–1898) was a Prussian-born evangelist who ran orphanages in Bristol, England. Converted as a student at Halle after a dissolute youth, he went to England as a missionary to the Jews, then settled as a preacher in Bristol among the early Brethren. In 1836 he opened a home for orphans, which grew into the great houses on Ashley Down, where thousands of children were housed and educated. He made it a rule never to ask anyone for money and to rely on prayer alone, and he recorded each gift in his Narrative, condensed in America as The Life of Trust. In old age he preached around the world.
