George Adam Smith (1856–1942) was a Scottish biblical scholar and preacher. Born in Calcutta, the son of a journalist, he studied at Edinburgh and in Germany, ministered to a Free Church congregation in Aberdeen and taught Old Testament at Glasgow before serving as Principal of the University of Aberdeen from 1909 to 1935. The Historical Geography of the Holy Land (1894), based on travels in Palestine, went through many editions, and his commentaries on Isaiah and the Twelve Prophets for the Expositor's Bible combined critical scholarship with the eloquence of the pulpit. He was knighted in 1916 and served as Moderator of the United Free Church.
