Frederick Orin Bartlett (1876–1945) was an American novelist from Massachusetts, a Harvard graduate who worked on Boston newspapers before turning to fiction. He published a long run of popular novels between 1900 and the 1930s, among them The Wall Street Girl, Joan of the Alley and Joan & Co., several of which were serialized in magazines and adapted for the stage or screen; under the name William Carleton he wrote One Way Out, a widely read account of a clerk's family starting over in a tenement. His books are light, brisk and good-humored, and they take an interest in work and money unusual in the romantic fiction of their day.
