Frederic Swartwout Cozzens (1818–1869) was an American humorist and wine merchant. A New Yorker, he ran a wine and grocery business and edited the Wine Press, a trade journal in which many of his sketches first appeared. The Sparrowgrass Papers (1856), comic accounts of a city family's misadventures in a house in the country on the Hudson, made him popular, and he was a friend of Washington Irving and other writers of the Knickerbocker circle. Acadia, or A Month with the Blue Noses (1859) describes a journey to Nova Scotia. His humor is gentle and observant, rooted in domestic life.
