Francis Hobart Herrick (1858–1940) was an American zoologist and biographer. Educated at Dartmouth and Johns Hopkins, he was professor of biology at Western Reserve University in Cleveland for forty years. His scientific work concerned the natural history of the American lobster, on which he wrote the standard monograph, and the behavior of birds, described in The Home Life of Wild Birds (1901), an early use of photography in field ornithology. His two-volume Audubon the Naturalist (1917), based on newly found documents in France and America, settled the question of Audubon's birth and remains the fullest biography. He also wrote The American Eagle.
