Ford Madox Ford (1873–1939) was an English novelist, poet, critic and editor, born Ford Hermann Hueffer, the grandson of the Pre-Raphaelite painter Ford Madox Brown. He collaborated on three books with Joseph Conrad, founded the English Review in 1908 and published Hardy, James, Lawrence and Pound in it, and later in Paris edited the transatlantic review, where Hemingway worked for him. His own best novels are The Good Soldier, with its famously unreliable narrator, and the four volumes of Parade's End, drawn from his service on the Western Front. The Fifth Queen trilogy about Katharine Howard is his major work in historical fiction.
