Frederic William Farrar (1831–1903) was an English clergyman, schoolmaster and author, Dean of Canterbury from 1895. Born in Bombay and educated at King's College London and Cambridge, he taught at Harrow, where he wrote the school story Eric, or Little by Little (1858), and was headmaster of Marlborough. His Life of Christ (1874) was one of the great popular successes of Victorian religious publishing, followed by The Life and Work of St. Paul and The Early Days of Christianity. His sermons Eternal Hope (1878), questioning the doctrine of everlasting punishment, caused a storm. He contributed The Second Book of Kings to The Expositor's Bible.
