Emily Eden (1797–1869) was an English novelist, letter writer and traveler, the daughter of the diplomat William Eden, first Baron Auckland. When her brother George, Lord Auckland, became Governor-General of India in 1836, she went with him as his hostess and spent six years there, recording a long journey through northern India in letters later published as Up the Country (1866). She also made portraits of Indian princes and courtiers, published as lithographs. Her novels The Semi-Detached House (1859) and The Semi-Attached Couple (1860) are witty comedies of upper-class manners. Her letters were collected by her great-niece in 1919.
