Emile Joseph Dillon (1854–1933) was an Irish scholar and journalist born in Dublin who studied oriental languages in Paris, Leipzig and Louvain, held a chair of comparative philology at Kharkov and spent some thirty years in Russia as correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. He covered the Dreyfus trial, the Armenian massacres, the Boxer Rising and the peace conference at Portsmouth in 1905, and was a close friend and adviser of the Russian statesman Sergei Witte. The Eclipse of Russia, published in 1918, drew on that friendship; The Inside Story of the Peace Conference, published in 1920, was an early and hostile account of Versailles. He died in Barcelona.
