Edward Vernon Arnold

Edward Vernon Arnold (1857–1926) was an English classical scholar and Sanskritist. Educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, he was professor of Latin at the University College of North Wales in Bangor from 1884 until his retirement, and he helped shape the new Welsh university. His Vedic Metre, published in 1905, was a pioneering study of the chronology of the Rig Veda, and Roman Stoicism, his lectures of 1911 on the history of the Stoic school under the Empire, remained for decades the standard account in English. He also wrote on Latin pronunciation and prepared editions for schools.
