Edward Luther Stevenson

Edward Luther Stevenson (1858–1944) was an American historian of geography and cartography. After teaching history at Rutgers College, he devoted himself to the study of early maps and globes, working closely with the Hispanic Society of America in New York. He published facsimiles of early maps and portolan charts, an English translation of Ptolemy's Geography, and his two-volume Terrestrial and Celestial Globes, a standard history of globe making from antiquity to the eighteenth century. His work helped establish the history of cartography as a field of serious study in the United States.
