Edward Jesse (1780–1868) was an English writer on natural history and country life. A civil servant who rose to be deputy surveyor of the royal parks and palaces, he turned his observation of birds, fish and animals at Bushy Park and Hampton Court into Gleanings in Natural History, published in three series in the 1830s, and followed it with An Angler's Rambles, Scenes and Tales of Country Life and Anecdotes of Dogs. He edited Walton's Compleat Angler and White's Selborne and wrote guides to Windsor and Hampton Court. His books were among the most popular natural history of their day.
