Richard Grenville, second Duke of Buckingham and Chandos (1797–1861), was an English Tory politician and the editor of his family's political papers. As Marquess of Chandos in the House of Commons he championed agricultural interests, earning the nickname "the farmer's friend," and added to the Reform Act of 1832 the Chandos clause extending the vote to tenant farmers. He served briefly as Lord Privy Seal under Peel. His extravagance ruined the family, and the contents of Stowe House were sold in 1848. In later years he published memoirs of the courts of George III, the Regency and George IV from the Grenville archives.
