Dean Conant Worcester (1866–1924) was an American zoologist and colonial administrator. Born in Vermont and educated at the University of Michigan, he first went to the Philippines on scientific expeditions in 1887 and 1890, and his book The Philippine Islands and Their People (1898) made him an authority when the United States took possession. He served on both Philippine Commissions and from 1901 to 1913 was Secretary of the Interior of the insular government, responsible for public health, forestry, mines and the non-Christian tribes, whose territories he explored and photographed. The Philippines: Past and Present (1914) defended American rule and opposed early independence.
