David Lindsay (1876–1945) was a Scottish novelist. After many years as a clerk at Lloyd's of London and service in the First World War, he settled in Cornwall to write. His first novel, A Voyage to Arcturus, published in 1920, sold few copies but later gained a devoted following and influenced writers such as C. S. Lewis. He wrote several other visionary novels, including The Haunted Woman and Sphinx, in which ordinary life opens onto strange spiritual realities. Lindsay died in poverty and obscurity, and his reputation grew only after his death.
