David Christie Murray (1847–1907) was an English journalist and novelist. Born in West Bromwich, he worked on newspapers in Birmingham and London and served as a correspondent during the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878, before turning to fiction. He wrote dozens of novels, among them Joseph's Coat, Rainbow Gold and Aunt Rachel, many set in the Black Country, as well as criticism and a lecture tour of Australia. Popular in his time for his humor and observation of provincial life, he left an account of his career in his Recollections, published after his death.
