Charles Fort

Charles Fort (1874–1932) was an American writer who devoted his life to collecting reports of phenomena that science could not explain. Born in Albany, New York, he worked as a journalist and wrote short stories and a novel before a small inheritance let him spend years in the New York Public Library and the British Museum, copying accounts of strange falls from the sky, unexplained lights and disappearances. The Book of the Damned (1919), New Lands, Lo! and Wild Talents present them with sardonic humor and mock theories. He coined the word teleportation, and his admirers founded the Fortean Society in 1931.
