Charles Edward Russell (1860–1941) was an American journalist and reformer. Born in Iowa, the son of an abolitionist newspaper editor, he worked for Hearst and Pulitzer papers in New York and Chicago and became one of the muckrakers, exposing the beef trust, tenement landlords and corrupt legislatures in Everybody's and Cosmopolitan. He joined the Socialist Party, ran for governor and senator in New York, and was a founding member of the NAACP in 1909. His books include biographies of Rizal and Theodore Thomas, the latter, The American Orchestra and Theodore Thomas, winning the Pulitzer Prize in 1928.
