Charles Edward Pearce (1843–1924) was an English journalist, novelist and popular historian. He edited periodicals in London and wrote serial fiction for the boys' papers before turning to historical novels and studies of the eighteenth century, the period he knew best. His books include Polly Peachum, a life of the actress Lavinia Fenton and a history of The Beggar's Opera; Madame Flirt, a novel drawn from the same material; Love Besieged, a romance of the siege of Lucknow; and studies of the amorous Prince Regent and of the stage beauties of Georgian London. His work is a good guide to how the Edwardians saw the Georgians.
