Benjamin M. Anderson (1886–1949) was an American economist. Born in Missouri, he taught at Columbia and Harvard before joining the Chase National Bank in 1920 as its economist, where his Chase Economic Bulletin was widely read. His doctoral dissertation, expanded as The Value of Money in 1917, attacked the quantity theory of money and insisted on the role of credit, confidence and real economic forces in determining prices. A defender of the gold standard and a critic of the New Deal, he spent his last years as a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, and his Economics and the Public Welfare appeared after his death.
