Arthur H. Clark was an American sea captain and maritime historian. As a young man he sailed in American clipper ships, and between 1863 and 1877 he commanded several sailing ships and steamers in the Far East and Pacific trades. He wrote The History of Yachting and The Clipper Ship Era, an account of the fast American and British sailing ships of 1843 to 1869, which he dedicated to the shipbuilder Donald McKay, a friend of his boyhood.
