Arthur Train (1875–1945) was an American lawyer and writer, born in Boston, the son of the attorney general of Massachusetts, and educated at Harvard. He served as an assistant district attorney in New York, and his first books described criminal justice as he had seen it. In 1919 he created Ephraim Tutt, a shrewd, kindly, stovepipe-hatted old lawyer who outwits the letter of the law in the service of justice, and wrote about him for the Saturday Evening Post for twenty-five years. Yankee Lawyer, Tutt's "autobiography," was so convincing that readers wrote to the fictional lawyer for legal advice. Train was president of the Authors' League of America.
