Antonio de Morga (1559–1636) was a Spanish lawyer, colonial official and historian. Born in Seville and educated at Salamanca, he was sent to Manila in 1595 as lieutenant governor of the Philippines and later served as a judge of its high court. Transferred to Mexico in 1603, he spent the rest of his life as a judge there and in Quito, where he was president of the audiencia. His Sucesos de las Islas Filipinas, printed in Mexico in 1609, is the earliest full history of the Spanish Philippines by a layman, and José Rizal reprinted it in 1890 as evidence of Filipino civilization before the conquest.
