Alfred von Reumont (1808–1887) was a German historian and diplomat who devoted his life to the study of Italy. Born in Aachen, he entered the Prussian diplomatic service in 1829 and spent most of his career in Florence and Rome, serving as Prussian minister to Tuscany and as a confidant of King Frederick William IV. He wrote extensively on Italian history and art, including histories of the city of Rome, studies of the Carafa family and the Countess of Albany, and Lorenzo de' Medici, the Magnificent (1874), a two-volume biography drawn from Florentine archives that was translated into English and Italian.
