Wild Animals I Have Known

by Ernest Thompson Seton

About 3 h 27 min of reading9 chapters

Ernest Thompson Seton, the naturalist, artist and a founder of the Boy Scouts of America, published Wild Animals I Have Known in 1898, and it became one of the most popular nature books ever written. Its eight stories, illustrated with his own drawings, tell the lives of real animals: Lobo, the wolf king of the Currumpaw in New Mexico; Silverspot the crow; Raggylug the cottontail rabbit; Bingo, Seton's own dog; the Springfield fox; the pacing mustang; Wully, the yellow dog; and Redruff, the Don Valley partridge. Seton insisted that the animals and their characters were real, and the stories, often sad, gave readers a new sense of wild creatures as individuals and inspired the modern animal story.
