The Border Watch: A Story of the Great Chief's Last Stand
The Border Watch, published in 1912, is the eighth and last of Joseph A. Altsheler's Young Trailers series, which follows Henry Ware and Paul Cotter and their companions Shif'less Sol, Silent Tom Ross and Long Jim Hart on the Kentucky frontier during the American Revolution. In this volume the hunters keep watch on the alliance of Indian nations and their British backers at Detroit, scouting through forest and lake country, rescuing captives and carrying warnings to the settlements, until the conflict comes to a head at the battle of Piqua. Altsheler, who based his scenes on period narratives, writes fast-moving adventure while giving the Wyandot and Shawnee warriors courage and dignity of their own.
