History of Egypt, Chaldea, Syria, Babylonia, and Assyria in the Light of Recent Discovery
Written in 1906 by two members of the British Museum's Department of Egyptian and Assyrian Antiquities, this volume was issued as a supplement to a popular multi-volume history of the ancient Near East, to bring it up to date with the excavations of the preceding decade. L. W. King and H. R. Hall report on the discovery of prehistoric Egypt, the royal tombs at Abydos, Memphis and the pyramids, the early Chaldaean cities, Elam and the Kassites, daily life in Babylonia, the temples and tombs of Thebes, the Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian empires and the last days of ancient Egypt. Many of the sites described they had visited in the course of their own work. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
