Gulliver's Travels, published in 1726, is Jonathan Swift's satire disguised as a sailor's memoir. Lemuel Gulliver is shipwrecked among the six-inch people of Lilliput, then stranded in Brobdingnag, where he is the toy of giants; a third voyage takes him to the flying island of Laputa, the academy of mad projectors at Lagado, the sorcerers of Glubbdubdrib and the immortal Struldbrugs; the fourth leaves him among the rational horses, the Houyhnhnms, and the filthy humanoid Yahoos. Each voyage turns a different light on European politics, science, religion and pride, and the last leaves Gulliver unable to bear the company of his own species. This edition contains all four parts, with the prefatory letter from Gulliver to his cousin Sympson. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
