Experimental Researches in Electricity, Volume 1
Experimental Researches in Electricity, Volume 1 collects the first fourteen series of papers Michael Faraday read to the Royal Society between 1831 and 1838, together with shorter related writings. They record the discoveries that founded electrical science: electromagnetic induction, the identity of electricity from different sources, the laws of electrochemical decomposition that bear his name, the theory of the voltaic battery, and the first account of dielectrics and specific inductive capacity. Faraday describes his apparatus and his failures as carefully as his successes, writing in numbered paragraphs so that every observation can be cited, and he uses almost no mathematics. The volume was published in 1839. The full text is available to read online in your browser on Vinteuil, and the first chapter is free.
