William Josephus Robinson (1867–1936) was an American physician and a pioneering advocate of birth control and sex education. Born in Russia, he emigrated to the United States, took his medical degree in New York and practiced as a urologist. He edited the Critic and Guide and the American Journal of Urology and Sexology, campaigned against laws banning contraceptive information years before Margaret Sanger, and wrote a long series of frank popular books, among them Woman: Her Sex and Love Life, Sexual Problems of Today, Fewer and Better Babies and Married Life and Happiness. He was also a freethinker and, like many reformers of his time, a eugenicist.
