W. F. Webster

W. F. Webster was an American educator and textbook author. As principal of East High School in Minneapolis, he presented to the National Educational Association in 1898 a course of study in English that the association later endorsed, and he developed it into the textbook English: Composition and Literature, published in 1900 and revised in 1902. His approach aimed at practical skills in writing and the close reading of literature rather than the fine distinctions of the older rhetoric.
