Thomas Keightley (1789–1872) was an Irish writer on mythology, folklore and history. Born in Dublin and educated at Trinity College, he moved to London in 1824 and lived by his pen, contributing to the Fairy Legends of Thomas Crofton Croker and then publishing his own Fairy Mythology in 1828, which Jacob Grimm praised and which was enlarged in 1850. His Mythology of Ancient Greece and Italy went through many editions as a textbook, and he wrote histories of England, Rome, Greece and India for schools, a life of Milton with an edition of his poems, and an edition of Shakespeare. He died at Erith in Kent.
