T. F. Tout

Thomas Frederick Tout (1855–1929) was an English historian of medieval England. Educated at Oxford, he taught at Lampeter in Wales and then for more than thirty years at the University of Manchester, where he and his colleagues built one of the leading schools of history in Britain and promoted research training based on original records. He wrote the volume on 1216 to 1377 for the Political History of England, and his six-volume Chapters in the Administrative History of Mediaeval England transformed understanding of royal government and its offices.
