Sir Reginald Fleming Johnston (1874–1938) was a Scottish diplomat, colonial official and scholar of China. He joined the colonial service in Hong Kong in 1898 and spent many years as a magistrate and later commissioner of the British-leased territory of Weihaiwei. From 1919 to 1924 he served as tutor to Puyi, the last emperor of China, in the Forbidden City, an experience he described in Twilight in the Forbidden City. He later became professor of Chinese at the University of London. His books, including Lion and Dragon in Northern China, show deep knowledge of Chinese religion and society.
