Septimus Sisson was a Canadian-born veterinary anatomist who taught comparative anatomy at Ohio State University in the early twentieth century. Trained in veterinary medicine and science, he devoted his career to the systematic description of the anatomy of domestic animals. His Text-book of Veterinary Anatomy, first published in 1910 with hundreds of illustrations, treated the horse in detail and compared it with the ox, sheep, pig and dog. It became the standard work in English for veterinary students and, revised by later editors as Sisson and Grossman's Anatomy of the Domestic Animals, remained in use for generations.
