Ruth Lamb (1829–1908) was an English writer of religious fiction for children and young people, active for some fifty years and published mainly by the Religious Tract Society and in its magazines The Leisure Hour, The Sunday at Home and the Girl's Own Paper. Her books include Comfortable Mrs. Crook, Her Own Choice, Only a Girl Wife, Work, Wait, Win and many short tales such as Grateful Peter's New Year's Gift and Borrowed Feathers. Her stories of city poverty and small-town respectability carry a plain evangelical moral but are written with humor and a good ear for speech, and they were standard Sunday-school prize books for a generation.
