Richard Linthicum

Richard Linthicum was an American newspaperman of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In 1906, within weeks of the earthquake and fire that destroyed much of San Francisco, he compiled the Complete Story of the San Francisco Horror with Trumbull White, drawing on newspaper dispatches and eyewitness accounts, with an introduction by Bishop Samuel Fallows. Such quickly produced disaster books, sold by subscription across the country, were a popular genre of the time, and his volume offers a vivid record of how the catastrophe was first reported to American readers.
